What do you think happens when Five Little Monkeys jump on the bed? Up to mischief, jumping on the bed, one after another they fall off and bump, their heads. Each time, Mama calls the doctor and the doctor says? . . . "No more monkeys jumping on the bed!" But they take no notice and continue jumping on the bed until they have all fallen off!
For years preschoolers have been reciting this well loved counting rhyme. And just maybe they’ll learn a lesson from the monkeys that you shouldn’t jump on the bed. But then again they are children, ready to explore the world making their own sense of each experience. So put aside some space to get all those little monkeys in your early childhood centre up and jumping in a safe place. Perhaps your monkeys could see how many ways there are to jump. I’ve started a list for you to build on jumping high, low, over something, side ways, jump forward, jump backward…
