These yummy currant buns have a number of pre literacy and numeracy skill development activities for emergent learners. This resource predominantly uses colour as the discriminating factor, but also supports counting and shape recognition. This file folder extension activity is designed as an integrated resource to support the learning and development of pre maths and math skills, not just counting.

The cup cake papers can be used for simple colour recognition and discrimination. Simply match up the cupcake paper colour with the coloured shape at the top of each card.

Two file folder activityies have been development to extend the use of this resource 2 literacy and numeracy extension activities that go with this teaching resource

The numeric number has been written in on each current bun to shows the connection between literacy and numeracy. As children match each colour, role model counting the colours aloud. Identify the written numeric for them. As their recognition and memory skills develop encourage them to ’read’ the number themselves.
